Abstract

Introduction: Covid-19 continues to cause, in Brazil and worldwide, a great increase in morbidity and mortality. Regarding the different age groups, the geriatric population continues to appear as the most vulnerable. This can be explained by a series of physiological changes in immunosenescence. Objective: To evaluate the independent variables related to the mechanical ventilation and death outcomes caused by Covid-19 infection in hospitalized elderly. Method: Retrospective observational cohort, with data collected from patients with clinical suspicion of Covid-19 infection between February 2020 and February 2021 at a university hospital in southwestern Brazil. Form of data analysis and expected results: Evaluation of the association of clinical, laboratory and tomographic characteristics related to clinical outcomes in elderly patients hospitalized for Covid-19 infection. Binary logistic regression models adjusted for multiple covariates will be used to assess the association of several clinical and radiological parameters with the outcome of death or mechanical ventilation due to severe respiratory failure.
