Abstract

Understanding how the interactions between animals and plants shape traits of animals and plants is a central issue in evolutionary ecology. With this in mind, the general objective of the present work is to investigate how the interactions between frugivorous birds and plants can shape the color of bird's plumage. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to assess this relationship both today and throughout the evolutionary history of species. Thus, we will first assess the relationship between frugivory and plumage color throughout the evolutionary history of the birds of the family Pipridae. Next, we will assess the relationship between the color of the plumage of frugivorous birds and the role they play in interaction networks. To investigate these issues, I will combine empirical data, comparative phylogenetic methods and analysis of interaction networks. (AU)
