Abstract

This work aims to apply aluminum-based coatings to improve the corrosion resistance of the cleaning tip, a device used in Kraft recovery boilers for the production of cellulose, used to unblock the air flow ports. Corrosion is one of the main causes that shorten the useful life of steam generating plants. According to HAMAGUCHI and VAKKILAINEN (2010) Corrosion problems in boilers can cost around billions of dollars per year, since black liquor, a by-product used to generate steam, is a residue that contains impurities, chemicals from the digester, lignin and cellulose. The recovery of chemicals for reuse in the production of cellulose occurs through the combustion of the liquor, made in the Kraft recovery boiler. Thus, due to the hostile environment, research has been carried out to obtain protective coatings on stainless steel parts, acquiring results of good resistance to wear and oxidation. Thus, the process adopted in this work is the technique known as Pack Cementation Diffusion Coating (PCDC). The parameterization of the process will be carried out through the optimization of the materials present in the cement and the kinetic and thermodynamic variables. The coated samples will be analyzed by optical microscopy (MO) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) associated with dispersive energy spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Vickers microhardness and non-standard abrasion test for comparison purposes .
