Abstract

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is characterized by the formation of blood clots (thrombus) within deep veins. The importance of this disease is related to its clinical manifestations and complications as well as its epidemiological relevance. However, its codification in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), used in the Brazilian public health system database, is too wide and unspecific. This may lead to greater subjection to errors of diagnosis and/or medical conduct in addition to difficulties in data collection. Objectives: to evaluate the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of ICD codification in patients with DVT diagnosis through a qualitative and quantitative comparison between the assigned ICD coding at admission and those assigned after complementary exams. Methods and materials: a study in the retrospective transversal analysis of patients between January 2013 and December 2020 with DVT diagnosis. (AU)
