Abstract

The main object of the research is to compose an analytical panorama of the verticalization of the city of São Paulo throughout the 20th century through the examination of paradigmatic examples from the collections of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo - FAU USP. It is intended to analyze projects and drawings present in the collection to identify spatial, formal, technical, and aesthetic patterns underlying the adopted architectural typologies and their relationship with the urban space and the historical moment in which they were built. In general, the research will be divided into two major stages: the first of surveys, selection of projects to be analyzed, and complementary bibliographic and iconographic research; and the second, the development of a critical panorama and specific analyzes on the set of selected works. The project starts from the consideration that the historical trajectory of São Paulo's verticalization constitutes an important account of the historical development of the city and its architecture, and the recognition of the documental wealth and the need to generate and disseminate scientific knowledge from the largest collection of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design of Brazil, under the supervision of FAU USP.
