Abstract

This investigation is intended to serve the purpose of understanding the philosophical and scientific role of the concept of observable in quantum theory by means the analysis of two specific problems, namely, the problem suggested by the mathematical representation of observables and the problem suggested by the use of classical referential semantics in the quantum-theoretical context. The research will be executed within a period of 12 months: 9 months at the History and Philosophy of Science Department of the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, USA, and 3 months at the Philosophy Department of the University of Illinois at Chicago. It will be supervised by Professor Nick Huggett. The research internship abroad (BEPE) will result in the writing of two complete chapters of the PhD thesis referent to the project FAPESP nº 2018/00275-3 developed in Brazil. (AU)
