Abstract

The purpose of this research project is to analyze Chinese energy investments, both domestic and international, and compare them with the documentation of the Paris Agreement (COP21), which are the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) of the countries involved. The energy sector chosen as a case study for this work is the one linked to coal and the countries that were chosen, were based on those that received the most investments from this sector, from China's Global Energy Finance database from Boston University, which are: India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Pakistan. The choice of coal is important to be studied since it is the most polluting energy source and still receives one of the largest shares of Chinese investments. The development of this paper arises from the metaphor of the ambiguous energy dragon, which represents different levels of the Chinese government, both central (head) and sub-national (body). In domestic energy investments, the look will be at China's thriving cities, called Tier 1 cities, which are: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, since the trend is that there will be more renewable investments. The methodology to be employed is based on Yin (2010), who uses the panoramic empirical case study context, a qualitative research modality. (AU)
