Abstract

Chigger mites (Thrombidiformes: Trombiculidae) are parasites of terrestrial vertebrates, and can even parasite human beings. During feeding, these animals inject digestive enzymes into the host skin, which can trigger inflammatory reactions, known usually as thrombiculiasis. There is also the possibility, if these mites are infected, from transmitting pathogens to the host. The present work proposes from the taxonomic study and detection of the presence of pathogens in thrombiculids in Brazil carried out by JACINAVICIUS et al. (2019b), where the presence of Rickettsia sp. in chiggers of Quadraseta, a continuity in the investigation regarding the presence of this pathogen in species of this genus. In addition, the work will consist of morphological description of the studied specimens, through taxonomic study in the genre.
