Abstract

The approach of the first centenary of the May 1810 revolution, aligned with the turbulent context of the beginning of the 20th century, brought with it the need to rethink the Argentine national identity. One of the answers to this problem was found in the alliance between State and intellectuals of nativist literature from the realization of cultural and educational policies with the perspective of spreading the "authentic" culture of its people, seeing folklore as the reservoir of values capable of homogenize and pacify the nation. With the purpose of maintaining or resuming old hegemonies, political groups in the capital and the countryside, with conflicting interests - crossed by the civilization or barbarism paradigm - saw in the field of folklore the possibility of propagating identity representations that confirmed their respective ideologies as hegemonic discourse. Based on the works produced by Ricardo Rojas - linked to Buenos Aires intellectuals aligned with the government of the radical Hipólito Yrigoyen - and Alfonso Carrizo - related to provincial intellectuals, linked to the oligarchies of the Northwest Argentine - this project intends to analyze the reflections between reconfigurations of identity Argentina and the discursive clashes between the groups in dispute for power.
