Abstract

The genus Ventrifossa includes 23 valid species, two of which occur in the Atlantic Ocean: V. macropogon Marshall, 1973, V. mucocephalus Marshall, 1973. During the collections of the project Projeto DEEP-OCEAN, made onboard the N/Oc Alpha Crucis, besides V. macropogon and M. mucocephalus, an additional species was collected, possibly a new species. The object of this project is to characterize the species of Ventrifossa morphologically, to compare with the already described species, and, eventually, formally describe the new species.(AU)
