Abstract

Abortion caused by infectious diseases represents an important key to economic losses, as well as an animal health and welfare issue. Chlamydiales infections have a high global prevalence and their relationship with reproductive disorders in livestock and humans is well known. Chlamydophila abortus is the most related species of Chlamydiaceae in ruminants' abortion, although new studies have shown the involvement of some Chlamydiales species that belong to the other families of the Order, the Chlamydia-likes, in livestock miscarriages. There are only a few epidemiological data in Brazil that show the importance of new studies about these bacterias. Thereby, this project aims to explain the involvement of Chlamydia-like organisms and the Family Chlamydiaceae, more specifically the Chlamydophyla abortus, in ruminants' abortion. (AU)
