Abstract

Bioglass 45S5 was the first synthetic bioactive glass used as a bone graft and with proven clinical results over the more than 45 years of its existence, in Brazil, such material is still little explored. The project aims to compare a 45S5 bioglass produced by a method called sol-gel where we have the mixture of components at the atomic level (dissolved salts) and has the great advantage of forming the studied phase in low temperatures (700-800°C) different from the traditional fusing method (1300°C), generating energy savings. In addition to this preparation, the project aims to study the synthesis of bioglass45S5 using a microwave oven for heat treatment, it will be possible to reduce the processing time by 21 times. The phases formed by X-ray diffraction (DRX, specific surface area (ASE; m2.g-1) and particle porosity via mercury porosimetry) and determination of the bioactivity of the two processes for obtaining bioglass will be studied.
