Abstract

This research project aims to comprehend the internationalization process of Marie Laurencin's work in the "peripheral" modern art market, particularly in Brazil and South America. We will study the circulation of her work, the valorization of her paintings, and the critical discourses about her work, considering the french markets and global networks established by modern art. Having as a starting point the study of the artist's reception in Brazil, this research abroad aims to integrate a new corpus of documents that, together with the documents studied in Brazil (particularly the Brazilian press), will help to establish a truly global understanding of the dissemination of Laurencin's art and, therefore, equally allow for a comprehension of the forms of circulation of modern art in the international market. With the inquiry to archives from the main Laurencin's marchands from the epoch and the collections of documents in galleries, auction houses, and Parisian museums, it will be possible to better understand the process of arrival of her works in Brazil, as well as her connections with global networks of modern art. Furthermore, it will be possible to elucidate how the narratives about the artist, which originate in French critical debate, resonate in the discourses found in Brazilian press and art critique. (AU)
