Abstract

This project intends to research the epic elements present in the comedy scene The Frogs, staged by Aristophanes in the 5th century BC. Aspects of the materiality of the scene that enabled a critical comic spectacularity and direct contact with the audience will be analyzed. In this sense, the use of scenic machinery such as ekklýklema and mechane stands out, which caused a rupture in the sequence and dramatic illusion, the scene game established between the few actors with masks representing different characters, the relationship between the meta dramatic of the work and, also, the performance of the choir through the parable. The work intends to be supported by studies of the scene that make it possible to measure the spectacular expression of Aristophane's plays, contrasted with his more canonical literary aspects. From this point of view, the research pretends to contribute to the construction of a historiography of the scene from the perspective of theatrical practice.(AU)
