Abstract

Among the plasma lipoproteins, high-density lipoprotein(HDL) is responsible for removing excess cholesterol from macrophages in the artery walls in a process called reverse cholesterol transport. However, other important functions have been attributed to this lipoprotein. For instance, HDL has been shown to modulate the inflammatory response of activated macrophages. In this work, we aim to evaluate the influence of HDL in the inflammatory response of macrophages challenged with LPS and/or excess cholesterol. To do this, we will use macrophages in cell culture and techniques of proteomics to identify the proteins released by macrophages exposed to LPS and/or loaded with cholesterol. In addition, we will evaluate the influence of pretreatment with HDL in the release of these proteins. (AU)
