Abstract

One of the products that are on the rise in the domestic and foreign consumer market is avocado, a climacteric fruit, rich in fats, minerals, and vitamins. Given its growing popularity, producers are increasingly interested in increasing their production in a simple and economical way, however, their productivity is still considered low, indicating that there are limiting factors in the process. One of the most evident characteristics of this fruit concerns its high respiratory rate and high ethylene production, making it extremely perishable, making the vegetable very sensitive to unfavorable environmental conditions during its storage. In this scenario, the objective of this project is to develop an embedded system that is able to monitor the physical-chemical conditions at which avocados are stored through temperature, relative humidity, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ethylene sensors, with the purpose to automate the monitoring process. The specific objectives will be to implement firmware for the embedded system that manages the readings, through protocols via Bluetooth, as well as selecting the necessary electronic components for the low cost and ultra-low energy consumption hardware, in order to develop a system that can be used by large and small producers (AU)
