Abstract

Dendrobium nobile is a species of orchid native to southern China, Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Viatname. In addition to economic importance in the ornamental field, this orchid has metabolites with pharmacological properties: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetes, antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, neuroprotective and antiaging. Among these metabolites, alkaloids, bibenzyl compounds, flavonoids, polysaccharides, phenanthrenes, among others, are described in the literature. Considered as a promising method for the production of secondary metabolites of pharmaceutical value, cell suspension culture has the potential to enable and increase the production of metabolites of the species in a controlled environment with the addition of elicitors in the culture. This project aims to establish a suspension cell culture of D. nobile and evaluate the activity of methyl jasmonate and salicylic acid elicitors in the production of secondary metabolites of pharmacological interest.
