Abstract

In this research project will be done the molecular characterization of the species of Giardia spp. in rabbits kept in residence (pets). The feces will be collected from 100 animals domiciled in the municipality of Araçatuba, São Paulo, Brazil. For the detection of Giardia spp. the Faust technique (zinc sulphate centrifuge-flotation) will be performed. Subsequently, all fecal samples will be subjected to DNA extraction of this parasite with subsequent molecular characterization by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for amplification of the SSU rRNA gene and sequencing of the amplified fragments. Data analysis will consist of descriptive and inferential statistics (Fisher's Exact Test) to verify the association between the occurrence of Giardia spp. with each of the variables studied (sex, race and age). The confidence interval will be 95% using the Wilson method (SERGEANT, 2017) and the statistical analysis will be considered significant when P <0.05. (AU)
