Abstract

A taxonomic revision will be provide from specimens of Paulipalpina Gnaspini & Peck 1996 which are deposited in scientific collections. In addition to the 16 described species, there is a significant volume of recognized additional material corresponding to potential undescribed species. The lack of recent studies focused on the taxonomy of the genus and its difficulty in recognizing species shows that a revision is needed and could elucidate significant issues about the diversity of Paulipalpina. Morphological characters such as aedeagus, normally used to recognize species of Ptomaphagini, usually shows great similarity among species of the genus Paulipalpina, and the analysis of such characters under methodologies not usually used in Paulipalpina taxonomy could provide a new view on the current knowledge of the genus through the redescription of the known species.The use of external characters as a reference for Leiodidae systematics has been gaining space in recent works, suggesting even a new overview about the phylogeny of the family. This review will also be an opportunity to study morphological structures historically neglected not only in the genus, but in all Leiodidae family. (AU)
