Abstract

Currently, late diagnosis of lung cancer, low survival rates, and frequent exposure to risk factors are related to the lack of knowledge that may exist regarding prevention and the signs and symptoms of this cancer. Thus, assessing awareness and risk factors for lung cancer are essential to propose prevention measures. These implements can be done through instruments that can cover questions related to the topic. The Lung Cancer Awareness Measure - LungCAM questionnaire assesses awareness and risk factors for lung cancer and, taking into account that the population participating in breast cancer screening programs is similar to the eligibility for lung cancer screening, it is possible to provide an ideal sample for research development, integrating screening programs. This research is justified since there are still no studies that have evaluated the Brazilian population regarding the awareness of breast cancer patients regarding risk factors for lung cancer. The aim of the research is to assess awareness and risk factors for lung cancer in women who are being screened for breast cancer at the Hospital de Câncer de Barretos. This is descriptive prospective research, with the application of LungCAM questionnaires, sociodemographic, characterization of the smoking habit, investigation of self-perceived health and assessment of nicotine dependence (Fagerstrom score) and susceptibility to smoking cessation. Patients will be interviewed by telephone and the sample for this study will consist of 364 patients who participated in the breast Cancer screening program in the year 2019 eligible to participate in this research. Data will be stored on the REDCap platform and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program.(AU)
