Abstract

This research aims to discuss the demonstrations, opportunities, spaces and limits for individuality and individuation in Greek religion between the archaic and classical periods, in the midst of the process of formatting the religious identity of the Thasian Polis in the 6th and 5th centuries BC. Therefore, we are going to use the interdisciplinary approach of Lived Ancient Religion against the vast Tasian epigraphic documentation, one of the richest of Greek antiquity, to reconstruct ancient religion not as an ahistorical set of symbols with fixed meaning, but as produced and mobilized by historical agents. Thus, through this methodological exercise and the relativization of traditional perceptions of Greek religion marked by the religion of the polis, we will be able to observe the moments of agency and affirmation of individuation in the relationship with the supernatural beyond community practices and even its eventual transformation into a new orthopraxy materially manifested in the midst of tensions in institutionalized practices.
