Abstract

The treatment of anterior open bite can be performed at different times and stages of dental development with different responses and prognoses. Objective: To compare the efficiency of anterior open bite closure with a palatal grid in early and late mixed dentition before and after 6 months of treatment. Material and Methods: Forty patients between 6 and 11 years of age with Class I malocclusion and anterior open bite will be treated with a palatal grid in early and late mixed dentition. The ET (early treatment) group will consist of 20 patients from 6 to 8 years old years and the LT (late treatment) group will consist of 20 patients from 9 to 11 years old. Digital models will be obtained at the beginning of treatment (T1), at 3 months of treatment (T2) and after 6 months (T3). These will be analyzed using the Orthoanalyzer® program to assess anterior dentoalveolar vertical development, and arch dimensions besides the overjet and overbite. By the 3D Slicer CMF program, the three-time points will be superimposed. Once normality is verified, intergroup comparisons will be performed with a t-test or Mann-Whitney test and intragroup comparisons with ANOVA or Friedman test (P<0.05). (AU)
