Abstract

The rise in waste generation is not just a Brazilian concern; it is a global challenge. With the growth of urbanization rates, waste from civil construction and demolition (CDW) is emerging all over the world, which has attracted research efforts in recent years. However, there is a lack of studies on the potential use of these materials in the adsorption of synthetic organic dyes, a critical approach that meets the fundamentals of the circular economy, priority areas of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC) described in Article 6 (Technologies for Sustainable Development) items IV, V and VI and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN). Therefore, the proposed objective is to characterize the CDW collected in an inert waste landfill in the city of Lorena (SP) and evaluate its capacity for adsorption of methylene blue. The proposed experimental activities will be divided into four steps: collection and preparation of RCD samples (1st Step); characterization of the RCD (2nd Step); study of the adsorption capacity of the dye in RCD (3rd Step) and data analysis (4th Step). As a result, it is expected to elucidate the influence of time, adsorbent concentration, and pH in the methylene blue adsorption processes in RCD, thus aiming to optimize processes for remediation of contaminated areas (within the scope of environmental geotechnics).(AU)
