Abstract

Coronary artery disease can accelerate the development of frailty; a syndrome that involves a complex interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors and results in a decline in the patient's functional reserves, impacting the response to stressful events. In this context, it is important to explore surgical techniques that are congruent with the functional capabilities of these patients, in order to minimize negative outcomes. The myocardial revascularization (CABG) technique using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) may be associated with risk factors, such as the development of acute renal failure (ARF), although the literature on this subject is extensive, little is known about the management of fragile patients in these conditions. Thus, the present study aims to identify, among frail patients undergoing CABG, those who suffered renal dysfunction and, from these, to correlate the degree of frailty with the criteria for classification and severity of the disease.
