Abstract

Power transformers are equipment used to reduce losses during the transmission and distribution of electric energy. Currently, the noise created by transformers is considered sound pollution and, consequently, attracts the attention of companies that assemble transformers and manufacture electrical steel. Although there are several factors, the main source of this noise is related to a magnetic property named magnetostriction, which is an elastic deformation produced by a magnetic field. Furthermore, the cores of transformers are subjected to compressive stresses during their operation, increasing magnetostriction and noise production. Besides, the study of the magnetostriction of grain-oriented electrical steels under compression is of interest to the scientific community and several companies, such as APERAM and ABB. This project aims to improve the measuring system of magnetostriction of electrical steels, reducing noise signals and eliminating undesirable harmonics. Regarding noise, the acquisition sampling will be increased, and an average of the cycles will be performed. In addition, Fast Fourier Transform will be used to identify the frequencies and phases of harmonics, eliminating them via destructive interference. Both strategies are expected to result in low noise and a reproducible magnetostriction system. It is important to emphasize that this project is a continuation of the FAPESP project #2020/13156-2. In sum, the development of a low noise measurement system will increase the quality of our group of research, bringing us closer to the technological levels of international research centers. Furthermore, this subject is of great interest to grain-oriented electrical steel industries and could produce partnerships between the initiative private and the university. (AU)
