Abstract

This research project proposes the study of terracotta figurines found in the sanctuaryof Hera located on the island of Delos, in Greece. The set of figurines comprises all thepieces, whole or fragments, found at the site of the Heraion in previous excavations, developed since 1873 by researchers of the French School of Athens (EfA). This set consists of pieces from the temple's votive deposit and elsewhere in the sanctuary. It propose to establish, from catalogs and publications chronology, provenance and typology, as well as an interpretive analysis(iconographic) of each piece, as well as the analysis of the set. Search from the resultsfound, propose interpretations of the context of the sanctuary, its functions and importancefrom Geometric to Hellenistic Period, in which it was active. Thus, the research aims to find in the statuettes references to the cult of Hera, in order to link these given to interpretive analysis, seek to clarify aspects of the worship of the deity in that place.The research is an integral part of the Heraion investigation project, developed with French School of Athens, under the responsibility of the Brazilian team led by Haiganuch Sarian (MAE-USP) and Gilberto da Silva Francisco (Unifesp).
