Abstract

This BEPE proposal will be carried out at the Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Gabriel Kessler. The objective of this project is to develop the analytical diagram that we are working on in my master's degree, focused on explaining the variation of homicide rates in the Triangulo Mineiro, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Our analytical diagram proposes the triad of factors: i) dynamics of illegal markets, ii) criminal groups, and iii) police action in public security policies, as an explanation for this variation. The overseas period targets two main benefits. First, the analytical and theoretical benefits of the interlocution with Dr. Gabriel Kessler and his study groups, as well as the refinement of the proposed analytical diagram. Second, the empirical and methodological benefits of a two-week stay in Rosario (Santa Fe province, Argentina), providing a possible Latin American comparison on the homicide phenomenon. Finally, the ethnographic experience of our group in Brazil, added to the analytical and theoretical expertise of my supervisor abroad will be fundamental to enhance the multimethodological approach proposed for my master's degree.
