Abstract

Soybean is one of the main crops in Brazilian and world agribusiness. One of the main obstacles in agribusiness is the presence and attack of pests and diseases. White stem rot, or white mold, is a disease caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. White mold is identified as one of the main soybean diseases with the ability to reduce production by up to 70%. The phytopathogenic fungus has a resistance structure called sclerotium. The sclerotia determine the fact of difficult eradication of the disease in the areas of incidence of the pathogen. Chemical control is the most common, however, it causes an imbalance in the ecosystem and exposes the health of non-target organisms and humans. Thus, efficient alternatives with less impact on the environment are necessary. Biological control through microorganisms has been explored for decades. The genus Bacillus stands out, having the ability to promote plant growth and control other microorganisms by antagonism. In view of the above, based on results obtained at the Laboratory of Biochemistry of Microorganisms and Plants (LBPM) - Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" /FCAV - Jaboticabal, the present project aims to evaluate the germination, incidence, and severity of the disease under the treatment of Bacillus fungorum (Isolate 18) in a greenhouse.(AU)
