Abstract

Neoplasms are becoming increasingly common in canine populations and humans, being responsible for high mortality rates among these populations. Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that canine neoplasms are very similar to humans, both histologically and clinically. Therefore, comparative oncology is an important tool for understanding neoplasms and developing treatment broader way. Studies indicate that the SET oncoprotein is a promising target therapeutic in canine and human neoplasms. In addition, scientific evidence point out that SET also influences the development of metastases, resistance to chemotherapy, development of neoplasms, and worse prognoses. Therefore, studies in veterinary and human medicine indicate that SET antagonists are important in the reactivation of PP2 phosphorylate activity, consequently causing apoptosis and decreased tumorigenic potential of tumor cells. However, even with much research on this oncoprotein, the mechanisms of expression of SET are not yet fully known. In this work we will perform analyzes of the expression of SET through immunohistochemical techniques, using paraffin block samples of 9 different types of canine neoplasms with the aim of providing material for researchers to understand SET in a broader, as well as making it possible to verify the predictive potential of research of the SET.
