Abstract

The aim of the project is to study several topics related to Quantum Field Theory (QFT). We will begin with the Second Quantization in nonrelativistic Quantum Mechanics (QM) formalism, followed by scattering theory and applications in Statistical Mechanics. Next, we will see the relativistic QM formalism and the necessity of field theory for its construction, continuing with the study of representations of the Poincaré Group and Wigner's Classification. Then, we will study the quantization of fields, gauge transformations, and the difficulty with the quantization of vector fields. Finally, we will see the quantization of scalar and spinor Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) with the application of the Klein-Nishina formula for Compton scattering.(AU)
