Abstract

This project presents a proposal for a Research Internships Abroad (BEPE/FAPESP) to be carried out in the position of Visiting Scholar (academic-year 2022-2023) at the Institute of Latin American Studies at Columbia University. My main objective during this Research Internship period will be the production of two Ph.D. thesis chapters and two subsequent international articles, based on activities around my research. For that, in each semester I'll concentrate on one of the following subjects: "Urban violence in Latin American cities" and "Pandemic & Urban Inequalities". During the 12-months period as a Visiting Scholar, I'll have the opportunity to enhance and sophisticate the theoretical framework to interpret the empirical data obtained in the P.hD. research - about urban violence and the Covid-19 pandemic convergencies in Latin American cities. I'll be interacting with a renowned researcher, Dr. Eduardo Moncada, whose research agenda focuses on understanding the political factors that shape the dynamics and consequences of urban violence. For that, I have produced a list of possible commitments to be published in Brazilian journals as a counterpart for my permanence at ILAS/Columbia. The Internship period will also support the internationalization of this project: besides the attendance on multiple university seminars and international conferences to present and enlarge my research possibilities, I'll be coordinating two Reading Groups that will directly reflect on the main themes of the proposed research. To consolidate these international networks around my research, I pretend to organize an international workshop based on these studying experiences.
