Abstract

This internship project aims to go further on the understanding of smart cities and the technical content in the urban space under the theoretical and methodological standpoint of Geography, considering the latest international literature in the field. Moreover, the research abroad concerns in analyzing the case of the city of Cardiff, taking into account the main enterprises, services and infrastructures linked with the "smartness" idea and its consequences to the urban space. This step is crucial for later studying the Brazilian case in Campinas (SP). This context claims for a critical approach on the smart city theme, focusing on the contradictory interests that produces the urban space and the main agents and stakeholders involved in these processes. Another concern stands in the role assumed by geotechnologies in the Smart Cities projects. In addition, the main sources of information about the subject will be provided by a comprehensive literature review, discussions with the foreign supervisor, field works in Cardiff and in academic events that concerns about the theme.
