Abstract

Introduction: Considering the discrepancy between the supply and the growing demand for donor organs for transplantation, the use of extended criteria donor livers is a necessity. The use of these higher-risk organs allows a greater number of transplants, contributes to a reduction in length of stay and mortality on the waiting list; albeit, it is associated with more significant morbidity and mortality.Objectives: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of liver transplants performed with organs from extended criteria donors.Methods: A retrospective observational study to review data from transplants performed between January 2016 and December 2020. Demographic characteristics, clinical characteristics of the patient before transplantation, donor demographic variables and the presence of the Eurotransplant Manual marginality criteria will be collected. The survival of patients and liver grafts (death or retransplantation) transplanted with organs from extended criteria donors will be compared with those of "standard" donors. In addition, the association of donor demographic variables and the presence of marginality criteria and the performance of international classification models will be analysed as predictors of the occurrence of these outcomes.
