Abstract

The present research project seeks to explore narratives about the notion of construction of place among women sheltered in a center for displaced persons located in the Village of Nacaca, Northeast of Montepuez, North of Cabo Delgado, coming from regions of the extreme North of the province, where since October 2017, a group of radical guerrillas (locally known as mashababos) have been carrying out violent incursions into local villages. Starting from an ethnographic analysis, I propose to think about how the memory exercise about the war between these women intersects with key concepts and processes about the notion of belonging to a place and its multiple meanings (symbolic, economic and material). Combining anthropology and history, the object of this research is to explore the causes of war, from their narratives and understanding of the historical processes they experienced and the new reality they must deal with on a daily basis. Their experiences are analyzed in this research, integrating the historicities referred to in their narratives about the notion of place, in order to think and experience their territoriality in the reception centers where they are sheltered.
