Abstract

Currently, the climate change caused by the greenhouse effect is one of the biggest problems mobilizing the society as whole. One of the main responsible for this phenomenon is carbon dioxide (CO2), a subproduct of several chemical reactions that occur naturally and a product from fossil products burning. Thus aiming to contain the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, such as CO2, it is necessary thinking about alternatives that promote defossilization. Therefore, capturing and converting CO2 to value-added products becomes desirable. Through actions of capturing CO2 directly from the source of emission, it is possible to plan the development of systems for the capture and subsequent conversion of captured CO2.In this regard, the synthesis of formamides is an excellent alternative, since they are relevant in several applications and an interesting intermediate for the formation of methanol. Previous results in our research group demonstrated a cooperative effect between gold and amine catalysts in the reduction of alkynes. As for CO2 reduction, preliminary results revealed the ability of the Au/TiO2 catalyst N-formylate piperazine in the presence of CO2 and H2.Thus, the objective of this research project is to study the N-formylation of amines from CO2 in order to clarify the reaction mechanism, as well as whether there is any cooperation effect between the amine and the gold catalysts.
