Abstract

Systemic treatment for breast câncer can produce several side effects in patientsaffected by the disease. Therefore, a longitudinal observational study will be carried outto evaluate the influence of neoadjuvant therapy with anthracyclines and taxanes on thefunctional performance of these women. 40 volunteers will be included in the study anddivided into 2 groups (n=20): a group of women diagnosed with breast cancerundergoing neoadjuvant therapy with anthracyclines and taxanes (NG) and a controlgroup (CG), composed of women without breast cancer. The functional performance will be assessed by the Time Up and Go test, handgrip test, sensitivity tests with the 10 g Semmes-Weinstein monofilament and 128 Hz diapasonand a Tocixity Scale. The assessments will be done before the first cycle (C1), beforethe fifth cycle (C5) and after the eighth cycle (C8) of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Theassumptions of normality of the data will be verified through the statistical test ofShapiro-Wilk and of homoscedasticity between the variances through the statistical testof Levene; for the parametric data, the effects of the groups will be estimated byapplying the Shapiro-Wilk, followed by the post-hoc Tukey's test; and for data that donot accomplish the requirements of the parametric methods, the Kruskal-Wallis tests willbe applied, followed by the Mann-Whitney test with Bonferroni correction (±=0.0056).The Wilcoxon test Will be used to analyze the comparison between paired data. Asignificance level of 5% Will be adopted.
