Abstract

Temporal lobe epilepsy is a disease with high prevalence, representing a large part of the cases of epilepsy worldwide. Also, hippocampal sclerosis is identified in most of these patients, and in cases that are refractory to drug treatment, the surgical approach is chosen for crisis control. However, there is no consensus on the best surgical method, the two most accepted being Temporal LobectomyAnterior and Selective Amygdalohippocampectomy. This research will seek to differentiate these surgical approaches from the perspective of functional connectivity of different areas of the brain with the healthy temporal lobe before and after surgery. The main hypothesis is that, from the point of view of functional connectivity in the postoperative period, the Selective Amygdalohippocampectomy behaves like the Anterior Temporal Lobectomy, which presents better seizure control. The analysis will be performed from the MRI image processing of patients in the pre- and postoperative period and selected healthy controls.
