Abstract

The present project aims at the systemic analysis of the use of microwaves for the drying of refractory castables through numerical analysis and results obtained by thermogravimetry. The careful and correct conduction of this processing step is essential for the good performance of refractory linings, since due to steam pressurization, spalling, cracking, or explosions can occur if heating is not carried out with due care. Thus, the objective of this research project is to adapt a thermogravimetry system heated by electrical resistances to another equivalent, but using microwaves. It is also observed that the present project proposes a solution to an industrial problem related to energy-intensive processes consequently it can generate a considerable reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases, as well as enable more sustainable and competitive products in the area of monolithic refractory materials.
