Abstract

The purpose of this project is to carry out the detection (direct and indirect) of Dark Photons-DP (such as vector bosons) generated by Bremsstrahlung from negatively charged particles in a 2 to 3 particle process -this particle hits in the target with a certain linear momentum, undergoes Bremsstrahlung and gives rise to a third component in the interaction: the DP- performing different experiments and studying different detection methods. This study will then be divided into two parts: direct detection of Dark Photons, mainly by Compton scattering (for DP energies above 100 keV) and DP absorption (similar to the photoelectric effect), and indirect detection by decay in Standard Model particles (as electron-positron pairs) and photon-Dark Photon oscillation. These DPs would be generated from the Bremsstrahlung of muons in Earth's surface rocks, and the event rates per day per energy interval would be obtained from the detectors of the COSINE-100 experiment. The estimates made for a rate of events that are generated annually through direct detection (especially because of the Compton direct detection), with coupling parameters with upper limit10^(-2) and DP of the order of 10^(- 2) MeV and 10^(2) MeV, indicate a large number of events, for muons with energy of the order of a few MeVs to dozens of TeV. In addition, the photon-dark photon oscillation also is expected to generate a large number of annual detections within the COSINE-100, so that performing this analysis seems viable. As for the other forms of indirect detection, further studies will be carried out.
