Abstract Introduction: There is little information about the number of deaf people who use the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and their socioeconomic and health characteristics. Research carried out by government agencies has been limited to investigating the so-called hearing-impaired people, not distinguishing from this group the ones who communicate through Libras. In addition, despite the legislation being clear that the deaf have the right to be assisted in their language in public services, what is usually seen are numerous obstacles to access, mainly due to communication and language barriers. Objective: To analyze sociodemographic and health characteristics, as well as the access to health care of deaf people who communicate through Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) or not, aged 18 years or older, residing in the metropolitan region of Campinas. Method: This is a quantitative research, characterized by a cross-sectional descriptive epidemiological study with an intentional, non-probabilistic sample. An online questionnaire will be applied through the Google Forms tool to obtain self-reported information. Participants' responses will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, with the production of frequency tables of categorical variables with absolute (n) and percentage (%) frequency values, as well as graphical analysis based on bar graphs. Chi-square tests and eventually Fischer's Exact Test will be applied to verify the association between two or more variables. Expected results: It is expected to comprehend the sociodemographic characteristics and access to health of deaf people and provide subsidies for the planning of actions and health policies more coherent with the needs of this segment. | |
