Abstract

Time has been extensively investigated by several areas of scientific knowledge. Eugène Minkowski took up the Bergsonian concept of lived time, which considers introspection and the life experience of individuals. Based on the observation of the disintegration of the notion of time in schizophrenic melancholia, he began to study depressive states from a phenomenological perspective of time. Considering that depression is related to an alteration in the lived experience of time intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic, this study aims to investigate this lived experience of time by depressed college students in the current crisis in the clinical and theoretical sphere through case studies using the structural-phenomenon method. Studying the theme through this method is important for spreading knowledge that has barely been explored in the scientific environment of Clinical Psychology and it contributes to the approach that takes into consideration the human being in their structural totality, without reducing them to symptoms and diagnoses. This perspective becomes even more relevant in the context of depression, which, according to World Health Organization, affects over 300 million people worldwide, and its prevalence increased by 25% in the first year of the pandemic, especially in young people and women.
