Abstract

The pollen grains of 12 species of Nyctaginaceae, Phytolaccaceae, Polygonaceae and Cactaceae (Caryophyllales) families will be studied; these species are native to remaining forest fragments in the State of São Paulo. This study aims to carry out the characterization of the pollen grains, which may help in the taxonomy of these families, providing subsidies for the conservation of the biodiversity of the environments where they are found. The pollen material will be collected in the main herbaria in the State of São Paulo, which have materials from forest fragments. The pollen grains will be acetolyzed, measured, described and photographed under light microscopy and, when necessary, photographs will be taken under scanning electron microscopy, in order to observe the exine ornamentation in a more accurate way. Qualitative data will be described to establish possible pollen types and quantitative data will undergo adequate statistical treatment and submitted to multivariate analyzes identifying metric data for the characterization of families, species or groups of species.
