Abstract

For over a century we have tried to understand the abstract formulation of quantum theory from more compelling physical arguments, the same way we understand special relativity, which can be derived from two simple physical principles. We cannot do the same for quantum theory and this is one of the most seductive scientific challenges in recent times: deriving quantum theory from simple physical principles. One of the important lines of research in foundations of physics goes in this direction. We aim to understand what physical principles explain quantum contextuality, one of the weirdest parts of quantum theory. This is the question we investigate in this master project: what are the physical principles that explain contextuality in quantum systems? (AU)
