Abstract The ongoing research seeks to perform an unprecedented analysis of the thematic and formal correspondences between Roman elegy and love sambas. As we understand that there is much thematic similarities between the authors, this research will use the works of the poet Sexto Propertius and Paulinho Da Viola's sambas to discuss the status of love in the both artworks. Even though they are temporally distant, they are close expressing the matter of love. The role of this research will be to identify which common and specific places of latin elegy and, more precisely, Sexto Propertius' elegies are present in the songs of Paulinho da Viola - a composer who condenses in his work influences from various genres of samba - discussing how they are similar and how they diverge in their elaboration. This will allow us to investigate how the handling of this theme, from the point of view of its content and expression, actively acts in the generic delimitation in both art forms. | |
