Abstract

The layering technique of composite resin veneers is able to promote a natural, aesthetic and realistic result, in addition to masking the darkened dental substrate. When removal for retreatment of these veneers is necessary, the Fluorescence-Assisted Identification Technique (FIT) method may promote less wear of the dental substrate. Therefore, the objective of this work will be to evaluate the influence of the layering of the direct veneer of composite resin in its removal, using FIT. Sixty bovine incisors of color A3 were selected, the dimensions of their crowns was reduced to 10 x 8mm. The specimens were divided into 4 groups according to the layering or not of the composite resin veneer and the removal method (conventional or FIT). All specimens received the initial scan (T0). The groups that were not to be stratified received a 0.3mm deep cavity preparation, while the others received a 0.8mm deep preparation and were scanned again (T1). The veneers were made with a universal adhesive system (Single Bond Universal, 3M ESPE, St. Paul MN USA) and composite resins Essentia Dark Enamel and Essentia Medium Dentin (GC dental corp, Tóquio, Japão). The veneers is being removed by another operator, according to the established removal methods and will receive a new scan (T2). The areas of tooth wear and/or presence of composite resin residues, as well as the average between wear and the presence of residues, will be measured and evaluated by thirds using the Geomagic Control X software, with a tolerance of 0.025mm for overlapping images. The data will be submitted to the statistical test of normality and homogeneity. If the results pass the aforementioned tests, the data will be analyzed by three-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-test. All analyzes will be performed with a significance level of 5%.
