Abstract

Eating disorders and smoking are very common psychiatric disorders that have a great impact both on the lives of individuals and on society, and their association has proved to be important. Despite this, studies dealing with its prevalence and association are scarce and need further investigation. The objective of this research is to calculate the percentage of individuals with nicotine use disorder who have a comorbid diagnosis of eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating). To this end, the following keywords will be searched in the PubMed, Scielo and Google Scholar databases: (anorexia OR bulimia OR binge eating disorder OR eating disorder) and (tobacco OR nicotine OR smok*). Original articles published in Portuguese or English will be included in this review. A high rate of association between smoking and eating disorders is expected, suggesting that diagnostic investigation and treatment of comorbidities should not be overlooked in individuals with ED.
