Abstract

The aim of this study will be to investigate the remineralizing potential of dentifrices containing calcium and sodium trimetaphosphate (CaNaTMP) in dentin caries lesions. Blocks of bovine root dentin (4 × 4 × 2 mm, n = 60) will be prepared and caries lesions will be induced on two thirds of the surface. The blocks will be randomly divided into 5 groups/experimental dentifrices (n = 12): 1) without F/TMP (Placebo-negative control); 2) containing 1100 ppm F (positive control); 3) containing 0.25% CaNaTMP; 4) containing 0.5% CaNaTMP; and 5) containing 1% CaNaTMP. The dentin blocks will be subjected to pH cycling for 7 days and treatment with aqueous suspension of experimental dentifrices for 1 minute, twice a day. The remineralization capacity of the treatments will be determined using X-ray computed microtomography to calculate the mineral concentration (gHap × cm-3). If the data present normal distribution and homogeneity, they will be submitted to ANOVA, followed by the Student-Newman-Keuls test. If the data are not homogeneous, the Kruskall-Wallis test will be used followed by the Student-Newman-Keuls test (p<0.05).
