Abstract

The Bachelor of Gerontology is a generalist professional who works atdifferent levels of complexity and sectors of the aging area. This action is relatively recentand needs to be more widely explored in the scientific literature for the practices of otherprofessionals in the area of ageing, especially in the Primary Health Care settings. Objective:To describe and analyze practical actions, skills and outstanding abilities in the performanceof the gerontologist in Primary Health Care in the last 10 years. Methods: This is aquantitative-qualitative study to be carried out at the Federal University of São Carlos(UFSCar) and at the University of São Paulo (USP-Leste) by document analysis of reportsand materials used in the disciplines of practice and professional time; interviews withgraduates and professors who have taught this discipline in the last 10 years. Historical data isaccounted for as average, standard, absolute and relative frequencies. Qualitative data wereanalyzed and categorized by inductive thematic analysis and by Bardin's content analysis inthe Atlas.ti medium. Expected results: It is expected that the performance of thisprofessional has been growing over the years, skills and broader interdisciplinary actions andthat this operation has occurred according to the demands of the health units.
