Abstract

Standard sirens: black or bright? The recent detections of gravitational waves from coalescing binaries have opened new possibilities for investigating the cosmological expansion history of the Universe. The successful candidate is expected to work at the interface of cosmology and gravitational waves, focusing on maximizing the scientific output of standard sirens, both with and without electromagnetic counterpart. In particular it will be investigated how to extract the highest possible cosmological information content from dark siren detections, by cross-correlating gravitational wave data with galaxy catalogs. Moreover these new detections allow a new set of tests on both cosmological expansionand possible completion of the gravity theory.
