Abstract

Historically, there are a tremendous lack of information involving the real management practices in the beef cattle industry in Brazil, especially during the cow-calf operation. Thus, there is a need for careful evaluation of the current outlook from the cow-calf operation in Brazil. The objective of this study will be providing an update of management practices in the area such as reproduction, nutrition, animal welfare and economic used by ranchers in cow-calf operation system. More than 600 ranchers will be invited to participate in the survey from a list of the contacts of the authors (provided by veterinarians, agronomists, animal scientists, and technical consultant from the private companies) as representing in different areas of Brazil. The questionnaire will be posted on the web (http://www.surveymonkey.com) and will be available for approximately 2 months. Data collection and analysis will be carried out according to Costa Junior et al. (2013). The data will be tabulate in an Excel Spreadsheet (Microsoft, Redmond, WA) and the number of responses, mean, minimum value, maximum value, and mode will be calculated for responses to all questions. Results reported in the current study will be provide a baseline of current management practices of cow-calf operations system in Brazil which may be informative for researchers, ranchers, and technical consultants.
